Title: Battery connections for the 009 Bosch dist.
Post by: Bob Wood on January 29, 2016, 11:37:55 AM
I am running the 12 volt gell cell Leonard recommends for the 009 dist set up on 1/2 VW on my XL. Currently I am running the standard crimp terminals for the battery connections.( The push on spade connectors). does somebody make a more substantial connector for this type of battery?  I can always safety wire them on but still afraid I will kick one and shake it loose.

I soldered on a charge lead from a battery tender to the battery terminals so I can charge when not flying.  I suppose I could use that same jack to connect to the airplane and disconnect to  to charge the battery....

What are you guys doing?

Any thoughts and options much appreciated!!

Hello Bob,
I've the same concern, but really hasn't been an issue....pre-flight check for solid connections.
I have a battery tender plug routed to the panel for in between flight charging.  Often thought of carrying a small battery and lead to plug into the panel if needed...just haven't scratched that itch yet!  It's amazing how much of the time in flight that I find myself eyeballing the volt meter....

Thanks Frank,
I worry alot less now since I balanced my motor..Lots less bouncing.  I also installed a quick connect plug used in amature race cars to plug in and out batterys,  I soldered the pigtail for this plug onto my battery terminals...Worry free....
