Title: MICARTA ROD
Post by: John Reinking on September 03, 2016, 02:45:07 PM
Drilling locations on wood for micarta rod inserts.   Misread bit.   SUPPOSED to be 3/4"  Drilled 7/8".   Anyone have any 7/8" rod you might sell?  Need 12".    Hoping not to have to buy a 4' length.  Very pricey.   reinkings@comcast.net     Thanks.

Is there an approved workaround?

I used Aluminum rod. Might be easier to get...

John, we also used alum rod as the insert instead of micarta on our DE Stubby.  If I remember correctly, I cut some circumferential grooves on the rod to allow the epoxy to bond it into the spar.  If you don't have a lathe, a file would probably work fine.
