I may be corrected, but in general, These vertical pieces on all wood wings are generally the same thickness as your spar caps and bottoms  Thus when your spar is built, it would lay flat either way.  (i.e. on the spar web or spar caps and vertical's

On the Legal Eagle Some are 1/4" x 3/4" and some are 3/4" square. The 3/4" square are at the joints on the shearweb.

Don't do what I did.  On the DE spars I used 3/4 x 3/8 sticks for the ribs to be secured do.  AFTERWARDS when putting in the lower diagonals discovered to my chagrin that the GUSSETS for those diagonals had to be reshaped to accomodate the larger size.   Boy, the guys on here who say READ AND STUDY the plans, well, let's say I learned the hard way.

So what you are saying John is that those sticks that the front of the ribs get attached to on the spar should have been the same thickness as your rib strip material ( 3/4" x 1/4" ) so that you wouldn't have to notch the diagonal gussets around around your 3/4" x 3/8" strips ? Thanks.

Nice looking wing, John My plans have still not arrived but I'm on my fifth rib and got all my nose ribs routed out today.
