Title: Full Case engine with rear mount magneto
Post by: Jlwright on January 27, 2017, 07:54:55 AM
Has anyone mounted a full case Scott Cassler 1/2 VW engine with a rear mount magneto on their Legal Eagle? Sorry if this has been posted before but I didn't find anything.
It looks like there won't be much foot room with the mag protruding through the firewall between your feet. I really want this option if it will work. I took pictures and measurements on mine and it looks like there will be about 7 inches between both shoes. the only time it will have any effect is when the pedals are fully depressed. Thanks in advance!

Jim, after spending time searching the forum, I found this link to photos from Les' installation.  Looks pretty close to what we are looking to do.  Now I just have to see if I can operate the rudder pedals without hitting the mag with my feet.  I should have sat in Les' airplane at OSH when I had the chance.

Les Homan, Scott Johnson & Joe Engleman have the thru firewall mag setup...

Surely it works Ok if three others have done it.

works just fine, just can't wear your clown shoes when flying. I have size 13 shoes and have no problem.

There is the answer I was looking for. :-)  Now if I only could see a picture of the view from the seat showing feet and the mag.

Here is what mine looks like. Size 11. (see pic. below) It looks tighter than it is. I feel comfortable with this set-up.

Thanks so much. I feel much better now. Size 8 shoe should fit fine.

Looks like a good set-up for me too, even with my size 12 feet.
