Hey Joe does the attached drawing do your sketch any justice? The blue part is the continental engine mount from the xl plans.

Is it M10 1.5 on one end to fit the vw case and 3/8-16 on the other end to change to standard hardware? Why the 0.480 step which requires altering the rubber mount?

Are all items needed or just the rubber mounts? I tried to search the old web site for alternate parts listed there but found nothing.

The XL plans have a little different drawing of the working mount and a notation the alum/nylon inner spool must move freely... Mike Pastor did the cross section for the LE noted here:

I was very confused by what I thought were two rectangles on page #8A. It would have been much clearer if the dimensions had the word "dia." or "Diameter". As I stated earlier I am a complete novice and when I see something that looks like a square or a rectangle I can't get beyond it. Now that I read the note for the tenth time " Alum. filler must move freely in tube" that finally put things in the proper perspective. Thank-you for your help and patience!

Post by: CHARLES DEBOER on March 07, 2014, 09:50:33 PM: Thanks John, I finally got the spools for the engine mount made. Our local EAA chapter 723 has a lathe manufactured around 1900. One of those huge iron monsters with a huge over head flat belt drive, a four jaw chuck and no index markings that tell you how much you have moved the cutter. Every cut must be eye balled and measured with calipers or micrometer. What a job. It took me three days of steady work to make eight pair of steel and aluminum engine mount spools. I made an extra set just because I had the material and figured that I would mess one or two up in the process.
