Want to know if there is any interest in a gathering of Eagles in Northern California, Flyers, Builders, interested to look at and discuss Leonard's wonderful little design. We are getting several flying, many under construction seems like a good time to build up some enthusiasm and share ideas.
-
Les,
Do you know Tim Floyd..? I think he is based at Holister. Steve will know how to contact him.
(https://www.eaglersnest.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Feaglersnest.com%2Fforum%2Fpic_stor%2FTimFloyd.jpg&hash=095c5be0db29d8dcaba183810b293e83d8de1595)

I know Tim have not called him yet but intent to and also plan on another cross country to Hollister to meet up with Tim and hopefully fly together.
-
Cool, Tim built very nice anodized wheel hubs and a stainless steel muffler for his... Hope you get some video, I sure would like to hear it.

Hey, Tim Floyd is a guy with many skills: Tim Floyd Music Bio... (http://www.montereybaymusic.com/TimFloyd.html)
I'll get up there for any gathering of Eagles - Here's a pic from one of my visits with Tim & a sidekick ( a second later the sidekick was sitting on my right arm):
-
Talked to Tim briefly, sounds like he would be interested. This should be fun.
-
Les.
Sounds like a great idea, there seems to be quite a number of builders coming out of the woodwork in this area, thanks to your inputs. We have a local EAA chapter here at Rio Vista, you don't have to be an EAA member.Mabe this could be a starting point to organize a sub group.A group has so many advantages to it .A sharing of info,,the joining of material ordering,to name just a couple.Your obvious previous experience is just what is needed.I would be all for it.Rex

Rio Vista pilots meet every 2d Saturday, at 10:30 AM, at the Rio Vista airport. FREE COFFEE. Les flew in this past week and we had a great interaction. We found 4 other LE builds in the Lodi, Vallejo and Delta area. If any assistance or coordination is needed please contact myself or Rex Avery at www.flyriovista.org. Thanks.
-
Works for me. Anything I can to to help others with the Legal Eagle and hope to have many Eagles here in Northern California to fly with.
-
And we have free gas!! Of course the LE does burn very little. This could be a great event. Are you aware of a LE kit in the Delta area? A gentlemen by the name Bob Hall.
-
Does he live on Bradford Island? I do not know him but there is a Legal Eagle Builder/flyer Burt
that lives in Palo Alto and works in Vallejo that has told me about him.
-
Yes. That is who Burt also told me about. Boith Rex and I would like to contact him.
-
Could a So. Cal. Builder join the action with you Northern boys? Maybe Steve, Keith, and Reink could join in too. Set a time and place and let us know if we are invited.
-
We will invite all eagle builders, flyers, interested people and wanta bees. There is a lot of interest so lets help
The seed grow
-
I live in Nevada, so north cal is an easy Harley ride for me. Will plan on attending when location and dates are posted.

Saturday, March 8, 2014, your invited, FREE ADMISSION; FREE COFFEE; Rio Vista Airport/O88, California...please help spread the word. Thanks.
-
Jerry. What you planning on doing. I am still working on setting up the northern CA eagle gathering. It will most likely be after Oskosh and still working on locations. Rio Vista, Oakdale, Oroville are high on location list but have several other places to investigate before we start getting serious. Have about 20 parties interested in one way or the other. I am already scheduled for March or would fly to Rio Vista. Let me know if i can answer questions or if you want to view eagle being restored or flown
-
Les,
Thanks for the reply. Rich and Rex both will be here that day. If you could fly in it would be great. Looking for any and all suggestions. Certain we could get Burt and the other Delta area builder.
-
Jerry. I would love to be there but unless something changes will no be able to make it. For the NCA gathering we need to an out several months to allow time to contact people off the
Lists, EAA chapters and minimize conflicts with other events. I have comunicated with people that would fly i. Drive in , haul in acd be here on bikes. Sounds like a fIr amount of interset. We are going to have to have a exible airport environment that will allow trailers on and let us assemble and fly. A small private strip in the valley would be ideal. Still researching
-
Les,if you could get a private strip ,that would be more than perfect, its just what we need..I would even take time off from building to attend.I can see the nucleolus of a great Eagles Nest.
Rex
-
Is this on for 3/8/2014? I would attend if my buddy can make it. Oh yeah, I need to ask the wife. She's usually compliant with most of my requests, but I still have to put on the show that she is in charge.

-
They are having a gathering, several legal eagle builders. All are welcome but it is not the northern california eagle gathering. If you have time on march 8 th sure you could learn a lot and enjoy
-
So this is an informal meet up? The official one hasn't been set?
-
John
No this is only the general airport pilots and EAA meeting. We take this opportunity to have a chat.
Les is the organizer of the Eagles group and is working on it to get us all together,We are spread out
quite a bit,so he has his work cut out. When he gets it going it will be a great time to all get together
and meet. When Les gets a date, make sure you keep that day open.
Rex
-
Ok thanks.
-
I'm definitely interested! Just let us know when and where when that is all figured out. Until then, I'll keep working on my Double Eagle wings.
-
We have news. The Northern California Eagle Gathering will take place at Rio Vista (088) the weekend of September 27th and 28th. We will plan on arriving on Friday September the 26th, with Saturday the 27 the main day with flight demonstrations, story telling, exchange of ideas etc. I will up date with some other things to do but what we are striving for is to cover from those with early interest, building and flying all Legal Eagles including the LEU, LEXL and the DE. If things work out intend to have some hands on eagle stuff to do including rib building, fabric covering and maybe some welding demonstrations, everything to do with Eagles. Bring your project, bring your Eagle parts and share with the group. If you have a flying eagle this is a great place to fly, winds are generally down in late September and the temperatures are warm but should not be real hot. Lots of things to see from the air.

Legal Eagle gathering Reminder. Coming up September 26, 27 and 28th in Rio Vista California. Spread the word and let those thinking about building, building or flying know. Will have a lot fun, tell stories, share adventures and enjoy the Eagles.
-
The room market in Rio Vista is sparse and poorly served according to posted web ratings - I just booked the Days Inn & Suites at Antioch for $79 on Orbitz - it looks pretty good and is just 10 miles away... I'm bringing my 4Ao84 stuff - a (way simple 40 hp gpu conversion) for an XL built to register E-AB for Sport Pilots...
-
Steve
Antioch is a good bet other nearby areas with hotels are Brentwood, and Fairfield, (home of Travis Air Force Base)
-
707-374-6374, Rio Sands Lodge, Rio Vista, 2 miles from the airport, has rooms at $81 a night; if 10 or more rooms can be rented, a 10% discount; riosandslodge.com.
The Rio Sands is not the Hilton!! Antioch requires a $5 bridge toll and about 20 miles away; Fairfield and Vacaville have Hilton's and about 15 miles away. Lodi, 20 miles away has Holiday Inn's and is on Interstate 5

Do we need Gate Codes to get to the meeting site?...
-
Plan is to meet at hangar C11 for coffee and donuts at 9 AM Saturday, September 27. From hangar C11, the majority of the day will be at hangar B8. These two hangars are approximately 50 yards apart. Aircraft arriving can park adjacent to either of these two hangars. Main runways are right traffic for 25 or 33 for landing. Transportation from the Rio Vista terminal building to hangars C11 or B8 can be arranged. Automobiles, desiring direct access to the two hangars will need gate codes. 707-628-9987 will get the gate codes.

It amasses me the number of people building, working on the same type of a project within not to many miles and we do not know each other. I am finding about others building Eagles every day where i thought i had an idea of who was working on them.
-
I want to thank everyone for attending, and participating in the Northern California Legal Eagle Gathering. We had a total of 35 people present on the airport that were there as result of the gathering and about 26 Legal Eagle involved in one way or the other. We will plan on doing this again next year, last week end of September in Rio Vista. I want to thank Gerry Nolan, Rex Avery, Steve Kiblinger, Bill Bardin ( UL and LSA flight instructor from Lodi) for providing support, hanger space and speaking, and thanks to Kevin for bring his Legal Eagle Fuselage and Rich for bring this Double eagle spars and ribs. I need to thank Burt Camenzinb for having his Legal Eagle on site and doing a lot of flying. I will be posting pictures and video as i have time today.

Les,
My guess would be the person doing the voice over turned the clip audio track all the way down in the editor software so he could talk on the mic, then he never turned the clip audio track back up...:-\
I sure would like to hear that motor...
-
It is a differant problem. I had the volumes up but having a problem w computer. The idling should be there

10-4 Les.
Thanks for sharing. Looks like you guys had a blast.

Rio Vista much appreciates being selected for the northern California gathering site of the LE community.. It was a fantasic weekend and great thanks to Les, Steve and Bill for their time and effort in preparing and talking about the 3 critical areas in building a LE.....wing construction, engine selection and welding. Bill specifically for his flight instruction insight and focus on FAA Part 103 and Legal Eagle applications. All three very critical areas. And of course, if you missed the weekend and missed Burt and his Legal Eagle, he is hangared at Rio Vista, and trust me, seldom is their a dull moment when he is in the air flying. Thanks Les for all your time and effort. Be remiss if I did not mention the long drive for Clyde coming in from Utah, Steve from the San Diego area and our couple from Oregon. Hope to see everyone next year and please help spread the word. The LE is the future for general aviation and the enjoyment of recreational flying. Thanks to all.
-
Looks like a nice get-together. Nice open area. But, all those windmills suggest high winds?
Hope you left-coast folks aren't upset that no one from the right side of the country did not trailer an Eagle in for the day, like Les did at Osh!!
-
Looked like an enjoyable event.
That big ol' thunderstorm got my attention--'round here those buildups can produce some huge outflows when they start dissipating. I don't want to be in my XL that close to a thunderstorm.....
-
Sam,That big ol" thunderstorm was on Friday,Bert stayed near the airport but reported no trouble. We have had no rain for months and we were hoping for a few drops but no luck. The big day was Saturday and you could not have ordered a more perfect day,In fact as every one comments the whole day was one to be remembered. The Legal Eagle seems to draw out the best in people. While on the subject let me take this opportunity to thank every one involved,to many names to single out.Sure did learn a lot that day.
