Title: Making CAD Drawings
Post by: 470 Adventures on May 15, 2019, 11:53:53 PM
Hey there guys. I recently bought a copy of the plans for the Legal Eagle, and I'm excited to start this project. Part of my plan is to use a CNC router, that I'm also building, to cut out parts for the LE build. So, tonight I spent some time and drew up the Rudder Horn from drawing 7 of the plans. This will be a fun project.

Enjoy!!!

That's great 470! You are going to be converting many of the parts for your CNC.
It's addictive...
It has helped me tremendously in speed and precision on my Eagle build.

That's for sure. At this stage I'll be going through and doing as many parts in CAD as it makes sense to do.

Here's the tail spring mount:

Here's my version of the Gear-Wing Fittings found on page 12. One thing you'll notice is that my drawing and the plan drawing are not lining up. I imported the picture of the plan and I used the bottom 2-1/2" distance to calibrate the picture. From that it became very obvious that the drawing itself is not to any scale. As a result I took the liberty to make a couple adjustments. I brought the wing strut mounting hole, the longeron, and the inner landing gear mounting hole all into a position so that the center point of these three holes all line up relative to each other. The original plan drawing implies this, by my interpretation, but when the drawing is recreated to scale things just didn't line up as indicated. No matter, here is what I came up with.

There are other things not taken into account.  The weld joints at stations #2 and station #3 where these mounts are installed.  I made my fittings to the drawing and found that welds made at these stations interfere with the the installation of the landing gear fittings.  You will be forced to make adjustments to that center point again.
