Can anyone tell me where the Better half vw oil temp prob goes? I think it's installs vertically on the lower right side near firewall. can someone confirm please.
-
Not saying this right or wrong, but I put mine on the lower left rear, near the back of the case... Just figured it would always be in the oil that way... Hopes this helps - see attached pic..

Well all I can see are two choices this is the face of the engine on the right side and the other is bottom left looking up. From what I can tell the bottom left is where the factory sending unit went.

Ok, the bottom left is access to your pressure spring and valve, you will want to leave that alone. If later you find oil pressure problems - there is an adjustable oil pressure spring and valve setup that can be ordered. Probably ok as is.
The hole on the front might work for you, it has been several years since I built my motor.. I think that hole is too small for the nut that comes with the temp probe to fit in.
I drilled and threaded the hole for my temp probe during the build. I will attach a couple of pics to show that.
So, I can't tell from the pics, but is this an engine that is complete. If so I would think the builder had some location in mind for the temp probe and if you are not the builder, then maybe the person where you got the motor can help.

Not sure why the other two pics did not come through on the last post.... Someone else on the site may have some ideas of where the probe can go on an already built motor also.

Hugh, thanks for the replies and pictures. I took the plug off the front and it looks correct.

Good on the plug looking like it will work... It is low enough on the case to probably work... I can see your case is different from mine so I would not know of any internal webbing that might prevent the probe from fully inserting at that location. Good luck with your project and never surrender... :-)

Yeah, only oil flowed out (no other bits and pieces). Prob installed fine. Again, thanks.
