I've been putting together a BOM for a LEXL. I've taken much of this from the file "XL materials list 11-24-09" and added some from the thread https://www.eaglersnest.com/forum/index.php?topic=2012.0
Can someone look this over and verify I have everything and the right quantities? When it's right I can put it in the file section.
Thanks,
Jay

PS, I have different material types on different sheets of the spreadsheet ie 4130 tube, 4130 sheet, etc.

I don't know where you are putting 55' of 1/2x035 ,I use about 22' when I weld a fuselage and rudder pedals you have omitted the 1.125x.120 used for the engine mount spools. 6" needed The rest looks pretty close, JohnB

Thanks for the updated list. I am so new at this I can use most any help. Did you happen to price it out? I just sent for the Aircraft Spruce catalog this afternoon.g Also JohnB thanks for lookin g over and catching that 6 ft piece. Best, Sawyer.

Not 6feet, 6 INCHES of 1.125x.120

Thank you John for chiming in. I know you are the one with the most experience in this so that means a lot. I made the changes you mentioned.
Sawyer, I sent out the 4130, aluminum, and Spruce Excel sheets to Aircraft Spruce about a week and a half ago and was told "Also, 4130 that we carry is steel not aluminum." What? Who said it was aluminum? Anyhow, I responded saying I wanted 4130 steel (which I would think anyone in aviation would know it's chromoly steel). I haven't heard back. I contacted Wicks with the same sheets and was told "can't quote the spruce.. no longer stocking it." They only quoted the aluminum and plywood. I asked if he'd quote the 4130 and he said he missed it so I resent him the spreadsheet but I never heard back after that. Again, it's been a week and a half. It's all in an easy to read spreadsheet (the same one attached below). I did ask for a quote from Metals Supermarket for the 4130 and aluminum as I could do a "local" pickup with them. After a week I got a survey from them asking how they did. Really? They never did quote the material nor respond in any way other than they received the quote request and would get back with me within 1 business day. Well, again, a week and a half has gone by and no quote. It really seems like nobody wants or needs the business. I'm really surprised.
I could try to go through each item and look online and fill in the spreadsheet but I know ACS and Wicks used to just quote the whole thing and let you know what crating and shipping would cost. Like ultralight aviation, these companies just seem dead these days.
At this point it seems like JohnB is doing a good service to sell you everything you need in one bundle. I can't tell you how his price is compared to others because I can't get a lump price from anyone. Being in the aviation business realm for several years I can tell you nobody in the small aviation companies (1 man shops especially) are making much money. I can be very sure what JohnB is charging that he's not out flying his Bell Jetranger off his large yacht on the weekends. Nothing wrong with that if he is but I doubt he's affording that selling quickbuild kits and material kits. He's making an honest living but it's not a get rich quick deal nor a get rich slow deal I'm sure.
Attached is the LEXL BOM file updated 1-18-20 to show JohnB's suggestions. Thanks again John.

I would send in the survey... Whoever got the assignment forgot or slid it under the rug.

Hi John,
I downloaded the LEXL BOM and opened it with my MS Excel2007. All I got was 4 rows and two columns with nothing but some mention of coatings; no lengths, material description or cost. Was there an error in the download, I think my version of Excel should have no problems?

JayDub Be careful of Wicks giving you Chinese steel, you do NOT want it in your airplane, welds like crap and has unknown properties. I use either US or German steel The Jet Ranger is down for maintenance at the moment, JohnB

Hi Dan,
I did take their survey and turned it in. That was over a week ago, last Friday. So a week has passed since telling them in the survey I was never contacted and still nothing. I keep hearing companies can't hire good help, I guess that might be true.
Lee, when you open the Excel file you'll find different sheets for different materials. Like John said, click the tabs on the bottom for different materials.
JohnB, thanks for the info on Wicks. I had read somewhere they bought up all of Dillsburg's stuff for pennies on the dollar and got stuck with a bunch of Chinese garbage 4130.

Lee, and all who are looking for the BOM that was on the Yazoo group. I'm not 100% sure this is what you were looking for but it is a BOM and it was on the old site... Attached
