Hi All,
Got the standard ribs done, and now working on Rib 7. Have a couple questions on the plans (using Irondesign plans in conjunction with Leonard's...)
1) What is 1/4" gusset A1 for? I see that in the plans it's for the root end of rib 7, and the rib 7 hinge block glues to it. It also looks like it butts up to G1 on the TE. But, in the overhead view on sheet 4 it looks like this has been changed to a longer 1/4" rib that replaces A1, C, and G1 gussets aft of rear spar, much like the 1/8" gussets that go in tip side of rib 7 and root side of rib 12 that are made of 1/8" ply.
2) It says make qty 4 of A1 out of .250" ply, for ribs 7 and 12. I see no 1/4" gussets on rib 12, what am I missing? Or has this been changed?
3) Finally, for anywhere you used 1/4" (nominal) or 6mm plywood between cap strips (like on the K-blocks), did you just sand capstrip to be coplanar to this 6mm ply, since it is slightly thinner than the 1/4" capstrips? What would you consider max gap filling properties for T-88? Is .015" OK, as you'd have with .250" capstrip and 6mm ply? (I know I know, on this airplane I should be working to one decimal place, not three! But it's for the sake of discussion... I'm really not measuring these with the calipers... :) )
Any help appreciated!
Thanks,
Pat

Maybe I answered my own questions... Guessing Scott just left A1 as he had originally drawn it but maybe the consensus has changed on how to do this. Or, maybe there's no consensus and every one is slightly unique!

You asked about a 1/4" ply gusset for rib #12. I did not use one. I used a 1/16" thick gusset on the root side and 0.8 mm gusset notched for the hinge block on the tip side.
