Title: Elevator Horn location
Post by: Chuck in Indiana on February 01, 2021, 02:06:25 PM
Hi, all.. I'm making the parts on this page
(https://static.imgzeit.com/large/c09ac70be720095d/IMG_20210201_164331127.jpg)
and wonder about the 4 1/2" dimension on the elevator horn. Since the spars on the horizontal stab and elevators are the same, and the connectors are 4" long, what's up with the connector for the elevators being 4 1/2"? Admittedly, the tips of the elevators would only stick out 1/4" inch.. but still..
What I'm really concerned about is the horn clearing the fuselage tubing etc. Leonard gives a fairly close  :) dimension of 3 9/16" from one end. Unlike seemingly everyone else, I'm building the fuse last, and I can't just lay the stab on it and check. I don't want to make two elevator horn assemblies..I already made two rudder horns. :P
TIA

I made my elevator horn tubing a little long (5"). I'll cut it to length during the empennage installation. If you make your connectors with 0.058" wall tubing it will slide right over 3/4" aluminum. 0.065" wall tubing would not fit over my 3/4" empennage spars and I could not get 0.062"

Thanks.. I'll just make the elevator horn and hammer to fit in field.   ;)
