I’m new to this forum, and only learned about the Legal Eagle a few days ago.
I’m seriously considering building this wonderful aircraft, but I’ve got know if I can get it off the ground up here in Conifer, Colorado (8150’).
Does anyone have some high-altitude experience with the Eagle?

I looked up the airport elevation at Ely NV... 6259 MSL.

That was Just the Starting Point !

Very correct...
The OP asked if he could get off the ground @ 8150 msl and the answer is a resounding yes if he is operating off of a long enough runway.
So the data point here is with 45 HP and the right prop you can get off in 800 ft @ 6259 msl
Les absolutely shoots a good video. No telling what hits the cutting room floor.

Density Altitude that day was 8050 feet.

I’m sold on the aircraft and the project.
Thanks to Steve for the great video and to Dan for the gentle reminder that I could have figured all this out for myself!
With the possible exception of building that damn wing, this is gonna be fun!
-
Building the wing is the fun part for me. Just like a model airplane, only larger.
-
Yeah, I can understand that, Kamcoman. But I’m a BMW mechanic, and I like things that bolt together, firmly. Especially things that I’m gonna use at speed. Or altitude.

Dandydog, You know some parts on airliners and fighters are glued together.

And if you think about it, the engine is glued on to a wooden fuselage.. :)

You guys tryin' to scare some of us? ??? ;)

Rumor also has it that some airplanes don't even have cables running to the flight controls, just computer controlled servos. Scary. ;)
-
Yeah, blue teeth and all...

NEXT ON HERALDO! HACKERS OF THE SKY.....Can someone with a cell phone control your airplane from the ground? :o ;)

It looks like you’ve gotta have a pretty good sense of humor (and a fairly blithe attitude towards life itself) to even THINK about building an Eagle.
My kinda guys.
I ordered my plans and videos today.
