Title: by the seat of your pants
Post by: Vince Carucci on October 17, 2021, 05:22:18 PM
Can one of you builders/flyers tell me the vertical distance between the bottom of the seat and the lower longerons? I have been tinkering with the geometry of the components so that the cable doesn't become slack when stick if move fully forward or fully to the rear. I just want to make sure it doesn't interfere with the seat.

I can put the dimensions back on the lower drawing if anyone is interested. It's drawn in Draft Sight and saved in .dwg format.

Here are the key dimensions. This puts the cable 4.5 inches above the lower stations or longerons. The red lines are just drafting lines. They showed 3 different positions of the cable mount with stick center, forward, rearward. There is a maximum 0.020" difference in cable length between the forward pulley an the rear cable guide with the stick moving trough the three positions. The cable mount is 3 inches above the stick pivot point. The pivot point is about 0.080" below center line of the torque tube. That was initially to allow maximum space for the cable when I drew it running through the tube.

I made another drawing with the cable passing through the tube, the pivot was mounted just under the tube. It lowered the cable by just over 1/2 inch but complicated a few other things. So I think the version shown is what I will go with... unless someone tells me that 4.5 inches above the longeron is too much.

I couldn't attach the actual drawing on this forum. If anyone wants a copy to muck around with, just message me and I'll email it.

Vince,
I checked the allowed attachment file types and dwg was not one of them...  I am sure it is allowed now.  However computers being as they are I could be wrong.  Please try again to attach the .dwg file.   ::)

Everyone's seat is different.  :o    From reading of people feeling they were sliding forward using the stock dimensions, I added a couple of inches (or more)to each end. That is working well, with none of that feeling. That said, from the top of my longeron to the bottom of the seat unloaded is 3 7/8 to 4 inches. There is plenty of clearance if the stick assembly is made per drawing..
