Title: TN Prop bolt torque 5/16-24
Post by: Sweet B on February 18, 2023, 03:26:43 PM
Quick question. Recommend torque for TN prop - AN 5/16-24 bolt with fiber nut. I’ve read some torque charts and I just want to double check value.

Here is a chart from Sensenich Propellers. Remember to add some torque for the locking nut drag unless using castle nuts & safety wire or cotter pins. Some builders on the Van's forum said add 25 to 28 inch pounds of torque for nylon locking nuts. I have been using 15 ft/lbs of torque on my Ed Sterba wood prop (1/2 VW). 13 ft/lbs for nut plus 2 ft/lbs for prevailing torque of nylon locknuts. Does not seem to be crushing anything but holds prop on securely. I noticed the AN4 torque specs conflict with other tables. Seems AN4 torque should be 4 to 6 ft/lbs (50-70 in/lbs). This is from several other charts.
