Title: Welding question

I tried reading up on welding requirements for engine mounting at station 1. I kept seeing the recommendation to weld the gusset plates on one side only. Why is that?

I welded both sides...

I believe the reason is localized stress from having filets on both sides tapering to the thin plate.
