Some design changes are due to the fact that this airframe was started by another builder who made changes yet some are done for reasons explained below. If you have other suggested modifications feel free to chime in with a 'short' note or link pointing to another thread.
1st: as I understand it, the original builder tacked up the bottom fuselage on a table made from a set of doors too narrow to allow the full width of 24" so the width was set at 21". I'm not a big guy and this is an XL so I think 21" will be great.
2nd: Based upon information from other builders (ie. Chuck), the Verner 3VLA is a bit weighty and makes for a forward CG if mounted in the standard 1/2 VW location. It was suggested I move the firewall back "a few" inches. So that is what I'm doing, moving it back from 24 1/2" to 22 1/2" from STN#2.
3rd: Also based upon recomendations with the Verner 3V. Some have mounted the 3V up 3" from normal VW location. This puts the engine noticably above the firewall. So I decided to make the firewall a square 13.5 x 13.5" instead of 13.5 x 11.5.

I can only comment on #1 - Many have narrowed the fuse... John told me he built a lot that were narrower... I built mine about that wide and it feels real comfortable... It's still a lot wider than the original LE... I'm also following responses you get on Verner... I'd love to build another someday with Verner hanging out front... I'd be concerned about leg room though... mine seems awful short & I'm only 5'10ish...

Hmmm, I'm the same height with an inseam of 32". Chuck seemed to think there was plenty of leg room on the XL to shorten it up a few inches but I failed to ask his height (Chuck, if you don't mind, what is your inseam/height?). How far from the firewall are your pedals when fully depressed?

29" on a good day. :) 7 inches from the firewall at full travel. If you have toe brakes, subtract that, too.

My inseam 32" - I measured my XL today... the 1st pix (centered (at rest)) the pedal is straight up - I know it doesn't look like it... 5" from station 1... full pedal depression is 2 1/2" from station 1... FYI, also don't forget to allow for spring movement... Hope this helps...

Pappy & Chuck that was very helpful!
Thank you.
