Title: Gussets on aileron 1/4” diagonals?
Post by: Shay King on September 26, 2024, 11:03:33 AM
Hi folks,
Leonard’s XL plans Page 49 appears to show triangular gussets on the 1/4” aileron diagonals at the front where they touch the aileron spar.
Page 32 appears to show rectangular gussets in the same location.
There’s no written reference to these as far as I can see.
Should there be gussets there or not?

I don't know what Leonard did, but here is my solution. I left a little protrusion of nose ply that would cover the 1/4x1/4 joints at the aileron spar. Makes a nice gusset over the joint. The excess gusset material has not been trimmed away in the photos.

I did the same thing on my nose ribs... easy to do, just had to think ahead and make sure you overlap both sides an extra inch or so... Great job Keith....
