Title: finishing tapes
Post by: DA Miller on August 11, 2025, 04:27:55 PM
I'm working on figuring out how much and what kind of finishing tapes I need to buy. Here's my question: Do any of you out there have any experience or opinion on the reliability of the dacron/peel ply tapes shown on page 461 in the ASC catalog? The 1" tape is 1/3 the price of Poly-Fiber or Ceconite, and the other sizes are about half the price. So what do ya think?  TKS  Possum

I found the Superflite 104 tapes to be very good and a little cheaper than Ceconite. I've heard that peel ply does not adhere as well as regular Dacron so I stayed away from it.

I've been flying for eight years with the peel ply and no problems using the Stuart System covering method.

That's good info. I wonder if it does as well with PolyFiber system?

I used peel ply on Mouser back in the day because I didn't know any better.  ;) You can look at Mouser and use it as a primer on "how not to do it."  :) It is still stuck, though..

Thanks all for the replies.  However, I think I have solved the issue.  By my calculations I only need  one 25 yrd roll of 1" tape and one 25 yrd roll of 4"tape. I'll get the 2" tapes by cutting them out of the excess 4'. So I'll go with the super- flite tapes. TKS again,  Possum
