Title: Burning oil
Post by: Isotope on December 30, 2025, 05:23:42 PM
Light smoke coming from pcv breather. About 2 hours run time using valvoline vr1 20w-50. It is not enough smoke to show up on video. Briggs vanguard 23hp, stock. I have not had it past about 4200rpm for a few seconds. Trying to do a gradual break in. Lots of heat cycles. Noticed the oil was a few onces low too after a couple hours of run time from a fresh fill up.

Unless its excessive amounts of oil coming from the breather, it sounds normal and should improve as the piston-cylinder-rings break in. Racing v-twins used in go-cart & lawnmower racing typically use catch cans as the result of higher pression, rpm, etc... Continue to monitor and record your findings.
