Title: Fuel sample drain
Post by: Vf24renegade on May 02, 2026, 12:04:43 PM
Has anyone with the 1/2 vw, added a drain valve at the low point in the fuel line to sample for water? I dont want to add the weight of a gascolator if i can avoid it. I have a filter in the line. If so, id be interested to know what you all came up with, not whether you think one is needed or not. Thanks

Don't know if this is helpful, but I made a gascolator/filter assembly from a Kubota filter. The quick drain is threaded into the base and sealed with JB-Weld Polyurethane Plastic Bonder and has not leaked on my test stand. It has a nipple for a vent line, if you need it. I have not weighed it, but it feels very light. I also like the fact that you can see any trash or water in the clear plastic bowl.

I tried your suggestion, putting the filter at the low point. But that vent nipple needs to be plugged as fuel geysers out from the head. My fuel tank is vented as it should be
