have been looking at a lot of used heads to experiment with prior to cutting up a new one for the flying edition and notice 75% of the dual port heads exhibit cracks between the valve seats,i have not seen this problem on any of the single port heads. The only new heads available are dual port.I know that our engine hours are low in comparison to a cars, but has this problem shown up in the 1/2 engine.I am coming to the conclusion that a used head is probably a better buy than a new dual port one.Has any one had any experience in this area.?

The heads on both my engines, one i got from Scott Cassler and the one i put together used the 2 port heads cut in half. Most of the heads i have seen are the 2 port cut in half. If you call Scott Cassler he could give you the real scoop on how they are holding up.

Have decided on the twin port head after cutting scrap heads from both types.I can get a better port shape from the twin port type as i am shooting on
building a mid range (35-40) hp engine and will probably use 30mm carbs..
Keep up the vidio's,They are great.

I found and old 1200cc vw engine for experimentation/familiarization, has single port heads. I looked at cutting in half and how squarely i could saw the intake port for plugging.( the side that will be trash,) then i could finish the cuts to end up with a head thats more like 3/4 than half. isnt more aluminum better here for cooling? This is prototype remember, i retired mechanic restoring old diesels the last few years... I'm on a three year plan to fly, likely buy from Scott in Az. by then. But maybe not i always see 1600's on craigslist.

Hi Guys, Don't ever use a used head you don't know where its been. Leonard
