hey folks..................kinda wondering how many people have had experience with "droop tips" ? I've seen a few flying.....just never seen any performance numbers/feedback..??? Just starting building ribs for the new Cabin Eagle.....hope the plans rollout in Jan 2015...

I am interested in this too. I used to work on A-10 aircraft and they had "droop tips" I assumed to increase lift as they operated low and slow with a heavy load. But then commercial airlines have what look like vertical stabilizers or fins on the top ends of the wings. I'm curious how they work / how they differ from droop tips.

Scott Johnson, Tim Floyd and Mike Pastor (LE Flyers) have tried the Droop Tips... Tim Floyd made his and I think Scott & Mike bought theirs from Team... The Team product weighs several lbs and I think Scott removed his for that reason and Mike was considering removing them...
A 1.5" fence on the bottom of the wing tip achieves most of the Droop Tip effect and weighs very little... The Droop Tip adds a little more wing on the LE's but that is not a consideration on XL, DE or CE designs - they have plenty of wing...
The 1.5" fences can be seen on current VID's of Joe Spencer's Put Put LE...

Thanks for the feedback on the lower wing fences, etc........this would be an easy build .....and I'm not too concerned with a few more pounds, as I'm going with a spare a65 for power (from a Chief I used to own ). For the cabin eagle its got plenty of kick with a 72" prop ( sort of a strange statement to make about an A65!)...........but considering the Aeronca weighed about 325 lbs more empty, and the CE has better power mass numbers ..........we will find out!!!!!! Thanks everyone for the feedback.............

Hey Gang,
I know this is an old post,,, but relevant. I had a Kitfox 4 (VW powered) with the droop tips. I removed them mainly because everyone kept hitting their head on them. I put on plain rounded tips. Guess what? It flew better, I climbed the same, flew faster (about 4 mph) and landed easier in crosswinds. Oh yeah, lost about 5 1/2 pounds too!
