It's all on their website...  https://www.flyonspeed.org/

Thanks to Steve for the heads up. (little pun)

This looks cool but somehow I think the simplicity and low cost of the ordinary analog lift reserve indicator using a Dwyer differential pressure gauge, some tubing, and a homemade probe all for about $100 is more in keeping with the Legal Eagle spirit.  Here is one example and there are others as well:  https://www.eaa.org/eaa/news-and-publications/eaa-news-and-aviation-news/bits-and-pieces-newsletter/07-2015-my-pov-of-a-diy-aoa-lri-indicator-fwiw-ymmv-lol

The fundamental problem with all AoA gauges is it requires the pilot take their visual focus off where they are going to look at the gauge.  As a hang glider pilot we use a variometer that produces a similar audio indication of changing lift via pitch and frequency to determine when we are in lift and how much.  The audio feedback enables us to recognize when we are not centered and to center quickly in a thermal while always keeping our eyes focused on flying.  When I watched the video demonstration I immediately recognized the value of the continuous audio feedback enabling the pilot to immediately make quick, small piloting corrections to stay at the right speed and bank angle.  I suspect that student pilots who used a system like this would progress in all aspects of dynamic flight much more quickly that student pilots not using AoA feedback.  I agree that it is not in the spirit of seat of the pants flying but we lose too many pilots due to loss of control, low to the ground.  I think using equipment that provides this type of feedback will make all pilots safer.

So glad U commented - I think this instruments scheme is to also give u real time data in variometer like tones thru the headset as you explore stall territory...

Anyway my pleasure connecting at this time is to reveal myself as an 86 year old with get up and go - I am slowly tossing many years of clutter to build FRED #584 in my shop to fulfill Eric's dream of FRED a performer with a cheap engine- my engine stand will be the first to be populated that is with continental 4Ao84 and an India made Ace Re-drive turning a ground adjustable prop. Wish me God speed I'm 86 years old with a 5 year plan - actuary tables say I'll stay the course...

Glad to hear about your FRED project, Steve.  Please PM me or reach out to me via the Clutton FRED site, I’d love to share more info and some pics of your project over there.  Cheers, Matthew
