Ultravair ignition
« on: January 11, 2014, 04:39:25 PM »
Has anyone used a Microsquirt of any other EDIS type of ignition on a !/3 Corvair Seems like that would be a fairly inexpensive and good reliable way of doing the ignition, and possibly a throttle body fuel injector.  My knowledge here is very limited, and I would like to know more.

I don't know of any flying or even past crib death in a test stand... I can tell you that Megasquirt stuff can be got to the 95% level and then just dog you with cold start/run issues that are daunting to figure out... Programming ain't bean bag... Put a Magneto and 2 Mikuni VM26-626's on it ( save lb's of weight / tons of complexity) fly by year end...

Steve I called Mr Pastor and he is sold on the one carb setup. He told me that at high RPMS the twin carb set up vibrates and shakes a lot being located out by the heads. He has his plane and engine up for sale. You can buy just the engine or the whole package. I asked if he wanted to do some machining for me, but he wasn't interested. I think he said he built one , or was building one for you.
Have you heard anything about the modification Ultravair is going to announce shortly about an electronic ignition and alternator setup?
Wouldn't know anybody wanting to sell some UltraVair parts would you?

Mike never flew his Eagle Enough to figure out that his motor mounts weren't dampened properly - ask Sam Buchanan about that exercise...

I have a complete Pastor UV engine and because I'm an old GM EE it will go on a Chevybird to send Ralph Nader pictures of... Check out Bob Hoover's Chugger made of HomeDepot 2x4's - I'm culling lumber now but so far put them in a stud wall...

Anyway, the current UV plans seller should be contacted directly as he is not active on the Yahoo Groups and has always advertised the EI, EFI package as coming on his website - no VID's . . .

Steve, so are you saying the is a problem with the way the Corvair is mounted? Mike told me he built the firewall engine mounts to the LE plans but used flat rubber washers to mount to the engine mount/engine. He is going to make me a sketch of his engine mount in the spring. e said the only problem he ever saw with his one card set up was condensate on the runners.  The people at UltraVair  said they were working on a throttle body if I understood them correctly. Mike wasn't to keen on using engine oil to heat the manifold. Are there drawings, or other information that can aid me in my project? I was checking out some insulating bushings from McMaster Carr. will any of those work?
Also the people  I bought my UltraVair plans from told me that some time this month there will be information coming out about the new ignition/alternator. They told me it will add about 2 pounds and they already have several hours on the engine.  I asked if there would be provisions for driving an alternator and they told me the kit would be a direct replacement for engines built per their plans.  That is why I asked about using the EDIS setup.
