The bare ass minimum I used to use when I had a Quicksilver, was: F-I-C. 

Fools ignore and crash.  F for Fuel. I for Ignition.  C for Controls...

My pretakeoff checklist for all simple airplanes is CIGAR Controls free and working, Instruments, Gas, Attitude of trim, Runup. Landing is GUMP Gas, Undercarriage, Mixture, Prop. It's worked for (gasp)almost 60 years, now.
