Does anyone have an XL near east TN?
« on: December 01, 2019, 04:28:05 PM »
Greetings,

Subject pretty much says it all.  I bought a set of XL plans, and I'm considering it for my next build.  I've learned from past experience that I shouldn't get too excited about any plane until I've seen one in person, so I'm wondering if there are any nearby.  I'm in the very eastern end of TN, and would be happy to drive 3-4 hrs in any direction if there's a plane I can look at.  Is anyone close by?

Thanks,
Rusty

LOL.  Of course I didn't check there.  It's a tradition that my first post to any group will be an embarrassment :-)

I'll certainly give a few of those pins a try, but in the mean time, if anyone happens to know of a plane in this area, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Thanks,
Rusty

Hi Chris,

That looks to be about 2.5 hrs from Tellico Plains, which is certainly doable.  I also emailed a member in Dayton who appears to have one.  Is yours flying, or still under construction?  LE or XL?  I just finished a Kolb Slingshot project, which hasn't even flown yet, and I'm already thinking about the next project.  It's a disease :-)

Thanks, but Memphis is over 6 hrs from here, so I'll try to find something closer.  No hurry really.

I am still under construction but getting to the finishing stages.  I am hoping to be in the testing stage by end of Feb but that all depends on my work schedule and how much time I can get working on it.  I am building an XL.  You are right it is a disease - I am also thinking about my next project already. You can see some of my build progress here although it is a little behind - http://buildlog.virtualmakerspace.com

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info.  I looked through the build pics, and it looks great.  The fellow in Dayton has one that's been flying quite a while, so I'm sure that will be my first stop.  His airport is even in my test area for the Slingshot, so that will be an easy trip.  At some point, if I remain interested in building one, I'll probably look you up again.

Thanks to all.  I think I've got some good options now.

Cheers,
Rusty
