As I had mentioned in my last post I need to increase the prop clearance (a lot). This is due to using a 68" prop on a Rotax 582. Having not thought this through

when I originally built the landing gear. I will have to build new landing gear.
I raised the engine 3" from my mock-up position, but I also need to raise the front of the airplane an additional 6" to give me 9" of prop clearance in a level stance. Oh well... time to get on with it.

Always a pain to redo work you already completed. How did you determine that 9" was the amount of clearance you needed?

I mocked everything up. Mounted the engine using an old engine mount. In level flight attitude I had less than 1" of ground clearance. I understand 9: is considered the minimum, and that is with flat tires and landing gear fully compressed. I mounted the engine 3" higher on the firewall and then added 7" to the landing gear. It's almost done

Is the prop shaft on the gearbox mounted in the up orientation...?

It is mounted up. So is the engine.
The problem is that the plans call for a VW engine with a 54" prop (or there abouts) and I'm using a 68" prop.

For calculating prop pitch I use a calculator on Culver Props website...

I have 4 in, in flying attitude, you would be amazed how high the tail has to be to get it to hit the ground
if you are in that situation - the propr would not be the concern - pick up the parts of the plane wouldf be the worry
