Control Cables etc
« on: August 03, 2015, 04:18:50 AM »
I am looking to order some hardware from Aircraft Spruce. AN bolts etc and the control cables. The Materials list state 1/16 and 3/32 Cable . There are a few options on the Spruce website.  Are these meant to be 7 X 7 strand? and I assume they would be Stainless also.

Are the thimbles AN100 ?
The plans call for 42 X 3/32 Thimbles but no 1/16th Thimbles although there is 1/16 the cable. Am i missing some thing?

sorry if this sounds a bit elementary but I am a noob at this stuff.

any help appreciated

regards Paul

Paul,
Looking at a paper Spruce catalog, I see:
- 1/16" cable, galvanized, 7x7 strands is what you want.
- 3/32" cable, galv, 7x19 preferred
- thimbles are AN100, -3 is for 1/16" cable, -4 is for 3/32" or 1/8" cable
- sleeves are "copper/plain":  ms1844-42 for 1/16" cable, ms1844-43 for 3/32" cable.
I used the copper/plain for galvanized cable.  Not sure, but the copper/zinc plated may be used on ss cable??

One size does NOT fit all!

Tom and Okdonn,

thanks both for the replies. thats makes a bit more sense now. Also after watching the video that explains the usage well. I had not seen this particular video.
The Spruce catalogue is an awesome reference, picked one up at #OSH14. so much info and parts it can become a little confusing.

Thanks for the help I will order today.

cheers Paul
