Videos and Plans
« on: October 08, 2015, 09:46:30 AM »
I have XL plans on the table to be started any day. I am debating whether to try the engine build myself or buy one of Scott Caslers. I know he's great and his price seems fair. I have zero reservation about him. But, I would love to have the experience related to the engine and understand whats happening in there.

So, how are Leonard's 1\2 vw plans and videos. I bought another set of plans and have to say they scared me a bit. I know as with any plans you have to look at them 99 times and the 100th time it clicks. I'm mechanically inclined but just haven't dealt much with engine machining or internals so I think some of the terminology was foreign and threw me.

Anyway, how are the plans and videos for the VW and also how about the DE vids. I want to have a plans package on hand and ask wondering if I should just get the whole shebang - plans and videos together.

Thanks

John

I've been running the same question through my head since I bought the plans.

Initially I am going to attempt the build myself even though I have no experience with engines. I read the plans many times. I've watched the videos, purchased a book on VW engines, and watched anything I could find on YouTube. I bought an engine some time ago and dis-assemble it. Learned a lot in the process. Turns out the case was no good so I tossed it. Will attempt the same thing again. I like the idea of an inexpensive engine and like most of the people in this forum, I love to tinker. Some parts will be purchased, some parts with be refurbished and recycled.

Then after hundreds of hours and thousands of $$ of tinkering, I will probably end up buying an engine from Scott Casler.
