Rudder horn idea
« on: January 03, 2017, 09:00:48 PM »
Getting the rudder done now and had an idea. Why not have a steel rudder horn attached to the bottom rudder hinge and rather than the aluminum one acting upon the lower rudder rib ? It could easily be attached to a "full circle" type hinge and apply it's force right onto the rudder spar rather applying it's force to the spar via a thin rudder rib. Fewer parts count too. Make it as light as possible. This would be a setup similar to the elevator horn. Any thoughts why not ? Any advantage with this idea ? Thanks.
