MiniMax Wing
« on: September 07, 2018, 04:43:36 AM »
From what I've read, the LE and maybe the LE/XL use the same wing as the MiniMax line of aircraft. Has anyone use a M/M wing or wing kit from JDT ? Just wondering about price difference from JDT and Bolton on that particular part of the aircraft. I'm not building anything at the moment, I have decided not to finish my CH-701 project as I'm waiting to hear from the FAA about my 3rd class medical. I have jumped through all, (I hope) the hoops, (twice, no less) and will not pursue flying again until I find out which direction I will be able to go. I really like the LE and would definitely consider the DE if I get my 3rd class back.

Bob, I must question, (not to do with the wing question) but your medical.  Instead of jumping through any hoops, if you consider you could pass driving a semi tractor, why not pursue a basic med ticket.  If your thoughts are on 701 and down, (even up to 172's)  the process is fairly easy and painless.  (no hoops)

MANY have done so...and no regrets have I heard.  Most often relief.  All the things they didn't do anyway are generally the only restrictions.

Best of success.

Scott, I was content flying Sport Pilot except there are only 2 S/P planes near me. 40 mi. one way and nothing else within 200 mi. They are both 1946 Champs and I love flying them but some times I would like to go a little farther and a little faster. Besides they are rented ALL the time so it's hard to get any time in them. Cessna's on the other hand, 150's and 172's are plentiful, must be at least 30 within a 40 mi. radius. I had to go through all this crap because I haven't had a 3rd class for probably 30 years, didn't loose it, just let it expire, so, I figured I'd give it a shot. It's only been 6 weeks since the FAA got my 92 pages of stuff but most people say it takes at least 3 to 4 months if you need a special issuance. I will wait, but not patiently.  LOL ! If they deny me, I will appeal, I know some pilots that have had WAY more health problems than I do and they got theirs again. Keeping my fingers crossed, and praying. Those 1946 Champs, well, that's the same year I was born and I just don't see me finishing the 701 so I will sell what I've built and start looking for some kind of 2 place L/S, (Kolb, CGS Hawk, Challenger etc.) provided the 3rd class comes through.
Just got to tough it out a little longer. Thanks for the input.

OK, now I understand, I thought much of this was taking place within 10 years...of within 10 years of your medical, now it is easier to understand. 30 years is a long time...now the wait begins...

Best of success always...

Yes, I guess I could have explained a little better. LOL. I was a construction worker for almost 50 years, so, even though I got my PPL in '74, I did so much traveling it just wasn't possible or feasible to keep it up. I finally started flying S/P a few years ago after getting my tailwheel endorsement in the two Champs I mentioned. I could be flying with a friend of mine, (he's a good bit younger than me, more like a son) that's an instructor now but I decided to wait and see what happens with my 3rd class. That way I don't waste money renting a plane that I can't fly solo. Of course, the instruction would be free. It pays to know people ! LOL ! When I find out my status, it will be posted here and also on the EAA Forum.

Well Sammy, I don't know if I'll be able to fly L/S until the FAA get's around to evaluating the 92 pages of my medical stuff.  My Aeromed doctor originally sent them about 12 to 15 pages and 5 weeks later they said they needed more. I admit, the first round of paper work was rather hastily done and I didn't know they wanted the "original" paper work and not copies. I had to do it all over again because once the print outs are read by the doctor and or technician, they get shredded and everything goes digital.  I re-did the stress test, paper work from hospital visits along with dates and results, eye exam, with original paper work and a new sleep study. My wife is a nurse and if it hadn't of been for her going with me and asking the right questions I wouldn't have gotten it done in time, or at all. A couple of guys on the EAA Forum said it will take at least 3 to 4 months before I hear back from the FAA. I sent my stuff in just before AirVenture so I guess it will still be a while yet. In the mean time, I'm looking, dreaming and hoping.
