Verner 3V engine mount query.
« on: March 06, 2020, 09:07:39 AM »
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to start building an XL soon. I intend to use the Verner 3V engine. I’m wondering if station 1 / firewall and engine mount points are constructed the same as for the VW engine. I’d also like to find out if there are plans available for an engine mount for the Verner or if anyone can supply a completed mount.
Thanks.

Shay, that's the 64 K question for Verner S-3 installs.  Les Homan  is probably the top guy  on terms of hands -on experience in experimenting with engine mount design.  Frank Johnson (Performance Propellers) and  another guy in Texas are doing work in this area.  The Texas LE birds have their engine mount pickups right at the four longerons on the firewall.
I don't know about the California guys, except to say that some 20 S-3 engines have been sent there so alot of people are going to have to focus on this.
I don't know of any completed mounts. Liability concerns affect the availability of plansets.
Again , Les Homan's videos are an excellent way to keep track of the ( Californians) engine mount developments.
  Cheers,

  Nical

I acquired a Verner 3V yesterday. It was for sale on eBay. Had a long trip by ferry and road to get it home. It’s a very early model with a Walbro carb. It’s never been run. My plan is to ship it back to Kamil at Verner for checking over and upgrading where appropriate.
The ignition modules and voltage regulator are mounted on the engine. Am I right in thinking that most users would mount these remotely?

Shay,  While my mounting is the newer style (much different) there might be something in this mount-thread that will give you ideas.  A few things I did differently from plans was to shorten the firewall back 2" to help with the longer mount of the V3.  I also made the firewall square though not so much for the engine but for my feet.

Thanks Brock. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it mounted and running successfully.

I can't imagine the shipping costs and time required to send it to the Czech republic and back. (!) Besides that. it's new.. (shrug)
Naturally the ignition pickups stay on the engine. The ignition module and regulator fit on the firewall.
