Cabin Eagle gross weight, design limits?
« on: October 25, 2022, 05:20:53 AM »
I don’t have access to my Cabin Eagle plans right now but maybe someone who does can help.  I noticed on the Legal Eagle web site that there is an empty weight listed but not a gross weight for the CE.  Can anyone tell me the gross weight and design limits (+/- how many g) for the CE?  Thanks!

Good questions!
On the first page of the plans, it gives to  empty weight as 487 lbs. Then the wing loading at gross is 6.9 lbs at gross weight. The wing area is 143 sq. ft. That results in a gross of 986.7 lbs.
On the weight and balance pages, the weight for the most forward CG is 678 lbs. with one 170 lb pilot.
The most aft CG is at 910 lbs, with two pilots totaling 340 lbs. and 20 lbs of baggage.
I find no mention of design G loads.

One size does NOT fit all!

Yes, I made that calculation from the wing loading as well, but I am surprised it’s never stated directly in the plans.

Old thread, new info....

I emailed Leonard today about this and had an answer back in a couple of hours.  In his short and sweet fashion, this was his exact reply.

Hi. Use a 1000 pounds. Leonard

I take this to mean that the number from the wing loading is the correct one and in fact rounded down a little from 1000 labs which would be a wing loading of 6.99 lbs/sq ft.  This may require some messing around with the engine mount to balance a heavier pilot and passenger but still very workable.
