Many have found facebook and there is more activity there. I prefer this forum, though. By far.

I gave up faceook and other social media years ago.  Not a fan of being the product.  I've missed it on many occations but I'm not going back.

I signed up many years ago because someone wanted me to look at their Vietnam pictures.  I found out you could not "Unsubscribe".  It took a lawsuit to get that changed.  The daughter of a lady who passed had to do it to get her mother's account deleted. I am on there but never (rarely) go there...

On the other hand, we just had our annual Rough River Fly-in over the weekend.  I asked several how they heard about it.  Many answered "facebook".  I don't look at it much (only a few groups I am interested in), but I am getting the impression that many do use it and it may be a good way to advertise.  IF I can figure out to use it to MY advantage.  Anybody know how that works?

yep... I'm an IT tech by trade & do not like Facebook or Google as a whole... However, there is a lot of good that can be had by using them (I know, always at a cost) - I try to limit my 'social media footprint' to primarily the Legal Eagle guys... As far as reaching the masses; Facebook, seems to out shine... If you decide to reach out via FB, once you have your login (you can always create an account only for this purpose, you can give very limited 'facts' on you if you'd prefer to remain anonymous), join the "Legal Eagle Ultralight" private group...  As you may know, I have documented a lot of tips & tricks of my build on YouTube; but I believe most see the videos because I add a link to the YT videos there on FB... Anyways, hope that helps...

what have folks been using for tail cable tabs.  SS or 4130?
I saw these (pic) on a visiting aircraft and they look like a nice variation to the multiple washers.

I used small SS tabs & aluminum washers only on the horizontal stab side of things...

Thanks Pappy,  I guess what I really should be asking is where have folks found SS for their cable tabs.  I've been trying to find some .063 (I think the plans calls for) 3/4 or 1" strap.  No luck on ACS or onlinemetals.  Might have to purchase a plate instead.  It's the little things that seem to hold up this project.

Me too... Need to order fiberglass & keep dragging my feet...  As far as SS, I had a scrap plate laying around I picked up from work (they was throwing out & I said I might need that someday)    - never had to buy any, so I'm no help there... keep moving forward & yes I'm stepping on my own toes...  If you have a scrap metal place, sometimes they let you buy at scrap prices...

Why stainless? I can't imagine it being any "better" than 4130. (?)

No real reason... That's what I had... I had seen many use SS & the plans didn't specify...

Well this took me longer than expected but finally it is done.  Hard to move quickly when thinking so slowly.  The solution to the bottom cable-tabs was simple in the end it's just that I knew there were likely 100 different ways to do it.  So here is what I ended up with.  I used welding rod to temporarally hold the horizontal down in place (level to the airframe) then made the top cables.  The bottom cables have me thinking I need to somehow attach them with bolts else wait until the airframe is painted and tail covered before doing the unfinished ends shown.

The accepted order of rigging the tail should be:
(1) Level the stab.
(2) Make up and rig the lower cables to where you can't move the stab upwards.
(3) Make up and rig the upper cables.
That way, with the lower cables already rigged you can easily adjust the vertical stab to where it is..uh..vertical.

Now ya tell me.  No, actually that is what I did, thank you.  Only for lower cables I used the (temporary) welding rods, they worked well.  Now if you had told me the best way to connect the lower cables to the lower bracket in a removable manner, that would be something I've not figured out yet.
