XL Mudguards
« on: September 06, 2025, 12:30:05 PM »
My airstrip is home to a flock of sheep. They do a fairly good job of keeping the grass short, but unfortunately they recycle it into a lot of smelly mess. I put mudguards on my Zenith 701 a few years ago and they save me at least half an hour of washing time after each flight.
I’m trying to come up with a similar solution on my XL.

I've seen this type of mud scraper on several cessnas and keep thinking this would be a good addition to my Sportsman with 850x8's.  Seems your "mud flap" could be called air scoopers and would be rather draggy.  They look cool though.

Sorry for the poor picture.  I gleaned it just now from a quick search.

Thanks for your reply, the scraper would be an option too.
The picture I posted is of the initial setup, I’ll be trimming them back to as small as I think I can get away with.

Adding very much drag down that low may create a big trim change.  May need to adjust the horizontal stabilizer incidence.  One change leads to another, and another and another...
