Timing a new Slick 2220 Magneto

I bought a Gov. Surplus Magneto on Ebay.  Could anyone tell me how to time the mag for the 1/2 VW full block 45 hp hummel engine? The engine timing is straight forward when I have a timing mark on the mag but, no mark on the gov surplus. How do I time the mag?

I would recommend watching "XP's Garage" on YouTube, as he has a whole build series for the 1/2 VW using Scott Casler's plans. In particular, the following video he reviews inside of the magneto and timing.
