Flying Double Eagle With Passenger
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:57:01 PM »
Has anyone flown a Double Eagle with a passenger?
I only see videos and information with pilot only.
From what I've heard, a lot of builders are making modifications and going way over design Empty Weight.
What is your experience flying two adults?
How are the seats?
Any suggestions?
What would you do differently on your second Double Eagle build?

DE Stubby has only flown with the pilot.  I've done fast taxis with a passenger on board and lifted off slightly, but the field we operate from is not conducive to test flying - too much "progress" in the area.  It seems that it should fly OK, though.

We hope to get to a larger field with open spaces around to gradually add weight to the passenger seat to finally answer this.

Stubby is heavy, with too much panel, a full accessory engine and a stout main gear.  All useful at times.  If building again, I would build the airplane lighter.  Forego the "nice" stuff, be real selective.  Probably shave off 50-100 lbs.

You have a great looking plane on the Home Page.
Doesn't look like it would be heavy.
I am wondering if it is too underpowered to use for Young Eagles flights and training.
I thought it would be lighter and better than a Champ or Cub with a 65 hp engine.
The website shows a 515 lb useful load, but it sounds like most being built at 400 lb or less.
Appears to be a 1.5 person plane.
Thanks

There are vids on the Cabin Eagle Facebook page of Joao in Brazil and B. Faires flying an adult and a pre-teen child respectively in their DE's...

Steve,
I found the Joao in Brazil first flight, but didn't see any mention of a passenger.
Perhaps there is a second video?
I haven't found the B. Faires video on the website or by Google.
Joao's panel looks first class.
Do you know the empty weight?
What engine did he use?
Does the Cabin Eagle use the VW engine?
Thanks for your help.
